I’ve just returned from a 3-Month roadtrip across the country and can conclude 3 things:
1) Canada is the greatest and most beautiful country in the world
2) It was the most unreal trip of my life
3) I am in the worst shape of my life
Now, I could bore you with details on the first 2 points (which I eventually will), but for now I’d like to focus on the third one.
3-months in a van, staying in hotels and friend’s couches, consuming more fast-food than the state of Mississippi, a complete and utter lack of exercise; all combined with 1,000 beers—doesn’t exactly get one in tip-top shape.
The result is the dreaded “skinny fat” look (taken upon arrival in Vancouver, Dec. 1st):

On top of this, I feel even worse then I look (so you can only imagine how I feel), it’s remarkable how much a poor diet, alcohol, and disrupted sleep patterns can affect your energy levels. So, I did what any ambitious young man would do, I picked up some Men’s Health magazines on the plane ride home, scoured the internet for the top detox foods and diets and made myself a plan. Toughest part is, Christmas break starts on the 21st where everything will inevitably go to shit—so I devised a 3-week intensive plan (unconventonial, but better than nothing).
A sample day goes like so:
7:30am
Glass of lemon water
8am – Meal 1
3 eggs
1 cup of oatmeal + greek yogurt
Fruit smoothie or cup of fruit
(berries, banana, greens+)
-Yoga- (9:30-10:45)
11am – Meal 2
Spinach salad (cucumbers, celery, carrots, black beans, etc.)
Tuna or chicken
Cup of nuts
-Hockey- (11:30-1:30)
2pm – Meal 3
Whey Protein Shake
w/ berries, flaxseed oil, and olive oil
4pm – Meal 4
8 ounce chicken breast or turkey breast
2 servings of vegetables (raw or steamed)
1 cup of brown rice or quinoa
Fruit (apple, orange, etc.)
-Workout-
7pm – Post-Workout
Whey protein + fruit juice
8:30 – Meal 6
Salmon or other fish fillet
Small yam or sweet potato
Spinach Salad
-Stretch-
10pm – Meal 7
Greek yogurt, almonds, and sunflower seeds
11:00pm – Bed.
We’ll see how it goes, going to be a serious grind, but there will be absolutely no fast food and no more then 1 drink of alcohol. I’ll post a photo of the end results on the 21st, and hoping it will make the cover of Men’s Health..
